Gastroenterology Introduction

Southern Medical University (formerly the First Military Medical University) was established in the 1950s, and in 1978, it established the Department of Gastroenterology. Professor Zhou Dianyuan, the founder of the discipline, vigorously advocated and led the introduction of hard gastroscopes in China in 1955 and pioneered fiber colonoscopy in 1973. In 1979, it was approved as a master's degree authorization point. In 1986, it became the first doctoral degree authorization point of the First Military Medical University. In 1995, the Central Military Commission approved the establishment of the PLA's Institute of Gastroenterology. In 2001, it became the first national key discipline of the Ministry of Education. In 2010, it was named the country's first clinical focus specialist. In 2014, the Guangdong Provincial Planning Office approved the establishment of the Southern Institute of Digestive Diseases. In 2015, he was selected as a key discipline for the construction of high-level universities in Guangdong Province. At the same time, as a national drug clinical research base professional department, Guangdong Province, "five science and education education project" key specialties, Guangdong Province, the first batch of key specialist, Guangdong Province, gastrointestinal disease key laboratory, Guangdong Province, gastrointestinal disease biomedical engineering technology Research Center, Guangzhou Center for Early Clinical Tumor Research and Translation of Gastrointestinal Tracts, and the discipline of digestive science has become a subject of academic importance.

Department composition

The discipline serves as the dominant and featured discipline in South China and even the whole country. It consists of the Clinical Department, Endoscopic Center, Experimental Research Center, and the Editorial Department of Modern Digestive and Interventional Diagnosis. The Guangdong Provincial Association for the Study of Liver Diseases also hangs on this subject and becomes a Clinical, scientific research and teaching as a comprehensive discipline system. The clinical department has developed 190 beds, and has formed specialized sub-specialties such as endoscopic interventional diagnosis and treatment, early gastrointestinal cancer, gastrointestinal motility, inflammatory bowel disease, biliary and pancreatic diseases, and small intestine diseases. Adhering to the concept of "Expert Diagnosis, Specialized Nursing, and Professional Services," the discipline serves the public not only with its comprehensive green emergency access, multidisciplinary consultation system, and difficult-to-disadvantage discussion system, but also at the same time taking care of the heads of the central and local levels. Tasks and support work in remote areas such as Xinjiang and Tibet. Not only did it successfully complete daily medical work and domestic remote consultation of difficult cases, it also participated in the formulation of domestic clinical guidelines and the government's major administrative decision-making consultation and demonstration work. As the largest endoscopic training base in South China, the endoscopy center has an annual treatment volume of more than 40,000 cases. It has established long-term, stable cooperation and exchanges with the United States, Japan, Germany, Singapore and other countries, constantly blazing new trails, and always standing in the endoscopic treatment. At the forefront of this, for example, the world's first transparent cap assisted full-thickness resection of the stomach (CASL), the earliest launch in the country POEM, ESTD, NOTES, Spyglass and other world-class endoscopic technology.
